Getting started

  1. Install herdr-core on the machine you want to reach. It must be on PATH or in ~/.local/bin.
  2. In Hirte, open Keys and create a key.
  3. Copy its public key into ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the machine.
  4. Add the machine with +: its address, your user name and the key.

Common problems

"Permission denied": the public key is not in authorized_keys for that user, or the file's permissions are too open.

The machine connects but no terminals appear: Hirte starts herdr-core connect over SSH without a login shell. Put herdr-core in ~/.local/bin or another directory on the default PATH.

Host key changed: if you reinstalled the machine or changed its SSH host key, tap Forget Stored Host Key on the connection error and connect again to trust the new key. If you did not expect the change, do not connect.
